Nascar Hall Of Famer Invests In Nashville Company
NASCAR Hall of Famer Darrell Waltrip gave a Nashville-based company a boost last week.
Waltrip has invested in Authentically American, a veteran-owned apparel startup. Company founder Dean Wegner declined to reveal how much Waltrip invested.
Authentically American provides uniforms, scrubs, work and sports apparel and various other products to more than 100 customers, including large businesses and colleges like the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Wegner said he hopes to expand to Vanderbilt University and Belmont University within the next year.
Wegner’s aim in founding the company a year ago was to outsource clothing from only American production facilities; he said the brand currently works with six production companies across the United States, although none are located in Tennessee.
Waltrip is well-known as a three-time NASCAR cup champion. Wegner said Waltrip fits with the culture of his company, and will help elevate Authentically American’s profile.
“Darrell’s a man of faith. He’s a man of character. He’s a man of family,” Wegner said. “And he’s also nationally known. Our vision is to build an iconic American brand, and if we’re going to do that, people have to know who we are.”
Wegner declined to share the company’s revenue, but said he expects to continue to grow in clients and outsourcing production companies. Wegner currently employs five people in the company’s Nashville headquarters on Edmondson Pike.
“One of our goals over the next year is to own Nashville,” Wegner said. “We know we can’t really [do that], but if we make a story here, it’s going to spread nationally.”
